TOWN MAYOR'S CHARITY GOLF DAY

In a period of near continuous rain the sun came out all day for the 9th Town Mayor’s Charity Golf held on 24th May hosted this year by Town Mayor, Cllr Jocelyn Towns. 88 golfers in teams of four enjoyed the Harleyford Golf Club course as they battled for the prestigious Mayor’s Cup and in the process raised money for the Mayor’s charity, Marlow Sports Club.
Throughout the day the local Harleyford professional, Jon Jones, raised money for the Mayor’s charity by challenging the players on the iconic 12th hole to get their tee shot nearer the pin than him. Only a few did this but they included Deputy Mayor, Suzanne Brown who is hoping to achieve a hat trick next year by beating the Pro three times in a row!
Following the day’s play team members and their guests joined Town Mayor, Cllr Jocelyn Towns in the Pavilion Restaurant for an excellent meal provided by the Club followed by the presentation of the awards.
In her address Town Mayor, Jocelyn Towns, welcomed the players and guests and explained that hers was a passion for sport and for children’s sport in particular, she said ‘I want to encourage children early in their life, to be involved in sport, this way they stay with it. Also sport can really benefits children with special needs.’ These were the major reasons behind her choice of Charity.
The Mayor then presented the golfing prizes. The standard of golf was very high but the overall winning team for 2012 was Wilson’s Wizards, made up of Alan Ross, Robert Keyes, Richard Thwaite and Duncan Bye, with a score of 120 points. Marlow Cricket Club team, consisting of Keith Hillier, Barry Stone, Graeme Paskins and Michael Price, were snapping at their heels with a score of 119 points and took the 2nd Prize. It was a great day for the Cricket Club Team, as their team members scooped all the individual prizes. Individual Winner with the best Stapleford score was won by Graeme Paskins , Nearest the Pin on the 6th won by Barry Stone and Nearest the Pin in two on 14th hole went to Mike Price. RSM Tenon Team 1 came 3rd. After the Mayor had presented all the winners with their trophies, there was one additional award for a member of the RSM Tenon Team 2. Leo Sykes was presented with a Ball Marker for being the first person in the Club’s history to submit his score by mobile phone! This caused considerable amusement amongst the diners!
