TOWN MAYOR'S CHARITY DINNER 25th September 2011
The Marlow Sports Club on Pound Lane opened its doors to the Community on Sunday afternoon 25th September, enjoying a fantastic turn out, with many children joining in the tennis, cricket, hockey and football experience. One of their trainers, David Hillier a Sir William Borlase’s 6th form student, even found himself training a junior Andrew Straus!
This was followed on Sunday evening with the Town Mayor hosting a charity appeal dinner in aid of the Sports Club at the Compleat Angler. Speakers at the dinner were Roger Dye a trustee of the club who gave a brief history of the Marlow Sports Club and its recent journey to charitable status, detailing their objective to further the interests of social welfare for the sports, recreation and other leisure time occupations for Marlow and its residents. There was also an interview with the aforementioned David Hillier by Jocelyn Towns the Town Mayor, with David explaining the value and benefits of the sports facility from his perspective and that of his fellow students!
The dinner was extremely well supported with over 112 guests who dug deep into their pockets for the raffle and auction prizes raising in excess of £5,000 for the Sports club.
The Marlow Sports Club is the Mayor’s chosen charity this year. Anyone wising to contribute to help bring sport to the heart of the community and encourage the youth of our town, should make donations payable to ‘Town Mayor Charity Appeal’ and drop them into the Town Council office in Higginson Park Pound lane.
Jocelyn commented: I would like to thank everyone that contributed to this event, those that donated raffle and auction prizes and a special thank you to the Compleat Angler for their very generous contribution. The evening was a great success with a good time had by all, and we raised a lot of money for the Sports Club.’
