Late Night Shopping in Marlow

LATE NIGHT SHOPPING EVENT - 8TH DECEMBER 2011

Once again the Marlow Chamber of Trade & Commerce are organising the very successful Late Night Shopping Event, this year one week later than usual on the 8th December.

The event will begin at 5.45pm with a procession starting at the top end of the High Street, headed by Father Christmas, followed by animals and shepherds from the Methodist Church Nativity scene and the children from local primary schools. They will make their way down to the Christmas tree for a short carol service which will atart around 6pm (music kindly provided by pupils of Great Marlow School) and the Town Mayor will then switch on the Christmas tree lights.

Father Christmas (and his elf helper) will be inviting children to his grotto in the High Street so he has an idea what they would like for Christmas and if they are very good they can have an early present.

Many shops will be open for people to visit and the High Street will be full of stalls, both charity and commercial. We are this year offering a prize (kindly donated by Waitrose) to the stall judged to be the best dressed for Christmas.

Plenty to do for everybody so come along and have a family fun evening and start Christmas with us.

Please note that the High Street will be closed to vehicles (except those servicing the event) from 3.30pm to 10pm on the day.

For further details, including enquires regarding having a stall please contact the Chamber of Trade.

2010 Marlow Late Night Shopping

The festive season was once again kicked off this year by the highly successful late night shopping event on the 2nd December, organised by Marlow Chamber of Trade and Commerce.

Despite freezing weather conditions, approximately 2000 people attended the event which started at 6.00pm with the President of The Chamber, Annie Mulady, welcoming the local residents and visitors to the town, the Christmas tree lights were then turned on by the Town Mayor, Roger Wilson, together with a carol service led by the excellent choir and musicians from Great Marlow, Foxes Piece, Holy Trinity, Spinfield and Danesfield Schools.

The High Street was closed for the varied array of stalls, both charitable and commercial selling their goods – from pheasants to toys, there was something there for everyone including a small fair ground for the younger children. Music and singing could be heard all the way up the High Street which made it a really special evening – we even had some festive snow to really make the event seasonal!

A number of shops in the High Street, West Street, Spittal Street and Liston Court were open until 9.00pm with some staying open longer to meet the needs of the number of customers coming through their doors. A number of retailers congratulated the event saying that they had a busy evening with new and existing customers as well as those browsing and coming back the following day to make their purchases - the event is an excellent opportunity for Christmas shopping and really brings a community spirit to Marlow.

This is a hugely popular event for families and really kicks off the Christmas celebrations in Marlow with an atmosphere of fun and music. The Chamber would like to also thank the organisations who support the event – we could not do it without you!
