Civic Service.

Town Mayor, Cllr Neil Marshall held his Civic Service in All Saints Church, Marlow on Sunday 8th February.  Deputy Lieutenant of Bucks, Mrs M Villiers, OBE, DL, High Sheriff of Bucks, Mr P Thorogood, Paul Goodman MP, Mayor of Beaconsfield, Cllr H Wilson, Mayor of High Wycombe, Cllr P Lambourne and Chairman of Wycombe District Council, Cllr R Wilson, were just a few of the invited guests.

The Theme of the Civic Service was Serving and Supporting the Community in Difficult Times.  Rev Nick Molony took the Service with guest minister, The Reverend David Picken, Area Dean of Wycombe, Team Rector of High Wycombe, taking the Address.

The Town Councillors made an Affirmation to undertake their duties with care and thoughtfulness, always remembering the importance of the tasks entrusted to them.

The Mayor took the first reading with the title “The State we are in” in which he spoke about some of the everyday words that civil servants had been directed to avoid such as Bedlam – a reference to England’s first lunatic asylum and Dutch Courage, which might imply that people from Holland became brave after a drink!

A collection was taken for the Town Mayor’s Charity: British Heart Foundation and Heart & Souls.”
