Town Mayor, Cllr Roger Wilson hosted the Annual Reception in the Shelley Theatre, Court Garden on Saturday. The Reception was held to thank those who are responsible for clubs, associations and others who make life in Marlow so varied and rich for its residents.
Among the dignitaries present were Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher,Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, Mayors from High Wycombe, Henley and Beaconsfield, Deputy Mayor of Marly-le-Roi and Mayor of Budavar District 1 to name but a few.
The Mayor kept his speech short as he doesn’t believe in long rambling ones he said! He then proceeded to announce the winner of the Town Council Sports Personality of the Year. Francesca Scambler was put forward by her school, Sir William Borlase, for her achievements in sculling.

Selected to be one of 13 to race at Great Britain Junior Final Trials at the end of June where she could win a place to represent Great Britain at the European or World Championships.

The Mayor presented her with the Sports Personality Shield which she holds for one year and a glass engraved trophy for her to keep in recognition of her fantastic achievements.
The Community Award was presented to James Campbell for his outstanding contribution to the Marlow Town Regatta and Festival which celebrated its 10th Anniversary this year. James was instrumental in getting the Town Regatta, in its current format, up and running after the International Regatta moved out of Marlow to Dorney Lake due to international competition requirements. He received a glass decanter which he said he would endeavour to keep empty! Jim is also the President of the Marlow Branch of the Royal British Legion and is very involved with the Remembrance Service and Parade held in November.
Cllr Neil Marshall, Past Town Mayor, presented a cheque to Stephen Morgan, Operations & Liaison Manager of Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children, for £3,680. This was the culmination of fundraising during his Mayoral year by holding a Charity Golf Day, collections taken at the Carols on the Causeway Event and his Civic Service. |
