An estimated 800 members of the public attended the Remembrance Service and Parade held on 9th November at the War Memorial on the Causeway, Marlow.
The Parade left The Royal British Legion Headquarters in Station Approach and marched to the Memorial headed by the Scots Pipe Band. Veterans, cadets from all the Armed Forces, Scouts, members of the Marlow and Marly-le-Roi Fire Service, Inspector Wilks of the Thames Valley Police and many others took part in the Parade. |
Deputy Lieutenant, Lt Col Simon Wilkinson represented the Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire and later took the Salute in the High Street. Town Mayor, Cllr Neil Marshall stood with the Mayor of Budavar District 1, Budapest, Dr Nagy and Deputy Mayor Mrs Mary-Sol Boyer and Cllr Mrs Stephanie Thieyre from Marly-le-Roi who laid wreaths on behalf of the people of Marlow, Budavar and Marly-le-Roi . Wreaths were laid by local community groups and organisations.
After the Service, held by Canon Griffiths, the Parade marched up the High Street to give the Salute to Lt. Col Wilkinson and then marched back to The British Legion Headquarters. |
Town Mayor, Cllr Neil Marshall hosted the Veterans Lunch organised by Marlow Town Council in the General Higginson Room, Court Garden House.
Some 21 veterans and their guests were invited to lunch prior to the Remembrance Service and Parade held on Sunday 9th November.
Among the guests was Cllr June Coleridge who served in the WRNS and was a code breaker at Bletchley Park and Mr Peter Hale who took part in the Arctic convoys that delivered supplies to the northern ports of the Soviet Union.
Mr Hale had previously been presented with the first poppy at the Marlow launch of the Poppy Appeal in October. |
