Senior Citizens New Year Luncheon.

The Mayor’s Senior Citizen Luncheon was held on Saturday 23rd January in the stunning setting of the General Higginson Room, Court Garden. Ninety-five guests were invited to attend this annual function to celebrate the New Year.

Deputy Town Mayor, Cllr Roger Wilson, had to step in to host the luncheon as the Mayor was taken unwell at the last minute. Town Clerk, Howard Bellairs, Cllrs Suzanne Brown, June Coleridge and Richard Scott also attended to meet and chat to the guests during the lunch.

Parkwood Leisure’s Chef, Richard Craig,  produced an excellent festive meal with all the trimmings.  The Town Council staff has put together a Quiz for diners to fill in on their arrival and which entered them into the free raffle.   The winner with the highest points was Mrs Butterfield who correctly answered such questions as: what was Eric Morcambe’s real name?; Who was the Welsh Wizard?; and asked to finish slogans such as Dig for ........,  and all because the lady loves ..........and,  Guinness is ...........    It was quite interesting marking the results!

After the lunch the Deputy Mayor drew the winners for the free raffle, with prizes having been purchased by Marlow Town Council.  The items included a sandwich toaster, carriage clock,  hand- made tumblers and many more.  The number of prizes totalled 25 with the star prize being a Luxury Fruit Hamper donated by Westside Fruit, Booker.   The person who won the hamper very generously donated it to Age Concern.

Once the excitement of winning a prize had subsided, the guests were treated to the music of the SoundsEasy Trio who played a selection of songs that had the guests singing along.  However, as with all good things the lunch had to end, but all our guests went home having had a good time and with a small gift donated by Waitrose and the Town Council.
